HOW I WORK

At the heart of how I work is exactly that, heart and a deep sense of humaness. I don’t sit with you as the expert of your life. I sit with you as another human who truly cares how you are and wants to support you to better understand and accept yourself.

My way of working focuses on four main things

  1. Empathy (a deep interest in understanding you).

  2. Unconditional positive regard (an acceptance of who you are, however you are).

  3. Honesty (from me).

  4. A therapeutic relationship built on trust and respect to offer you as safer space as possible for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.

WHAT DOES BEING PERSON CENTRED MEAN?
WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE OR FEEL LIKE IN OUR WORK TOGETHER

  • It is the name of an approach to counselling Carl Rogers developed.

In its most simplest form it means of the person for the person. It is a type of therapy that honours a person’s personal power and works with them in a way that suits their own wonderful unique way of being.

  • Empathy
I endeavour to really understand you and your experience.

    Congruence/ genuine
I bring myself as another human and my honesty to our work together.

    Unconditional positive regard.
I accept you as you are, however you are.

  • I am non-directive. I deeply respect your autonomy and personal power. I listen to your experience and the meaning you make of it, so you come to your own insights and decisions that are from you, for you.

We are in it together. We will work together to build a trusting and respectful relationship that supports you to make therapeutic changes in your life.

  • Empower you to trust in your own judgement.

    Increase your understanding of yourself.

Support healing, in all areas of your being.

  • Tell me what works or doesn’t for you or work with me to find out.

Be comfortable. Move, sit still, look where you like.

Talk at your pace. Talk fast, slow, a little or a lot about the things you want to share with me.

NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING ELSE?

In my mind, there are no silly questions. It’s really important you get all the information you need to feel comfortable starting therapy with me.

Can’t find the answers you’re looking for? Have a different question? Or, perhaps need things put in a different way so you get what I mean?

WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY? CAN I DO BOTH WITH YOU?

  • It uses the tools of yoga (movement, breath work, meditation, relaxation) in a safe, tailored way to support people with physical, emotional, and mental health challenges.

  • Whilst Yoga therapy focuses on the uniqueness of the person it is more directional in its approach.

If you are interested in bringing in elements of yoga (mind, body, breath) work into you counselling we can talk about it and what they might look like to make sure we find the best fit for you and your intentions for counselling.

  • Absolutely not. You don’t need any previous yoga experience and you don’t need to be flexible, strong or have fancy leggings to enjoy the benefits of yoga therapy.
